From the “More Harm Than Good” Department

The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda promised that as a "Christmas present", she would ensure the Ugandan parliament to passes a law that makes being gay an offense punishable with life imprisonment, and in many cases, a death sentence.  Offenses include touching someone or being in a gay relationship.  On December 12, 2012, the pope met with her and gave her his blessing.  American Christian Evangelicals and conservative politicians have served as consultants and advisors to the Ugandan government over the past few years leading up to this legislation.
