With surprising candor and conclusions, educators on the front lines--from differing backgrounds and political leanings-- discuss whether a crisis exists in public education, and if so of what is its origin: fiscal, social, political, institutional, or other. How would these professional administrators and teachers go about fixing things from their view in the trenches? What do they think about No Child Left Behind; increased college expectation; international test comparisons; current financial pinches; standardized testing; overpaid teachers; social & sociological determinants of success; rankings; merit pay for teachers; tenure; unions? Ron Fuller is county superintendent for Kalamazoo RESA in Michigan; Matt Miller is superintendent in Parchment, Michigan--the district where Tom Novak teaches 6th grade, and is a past president for his local union. Stephen just retired after 10 years as a local school board trustee and president.
