Edward Snowden NBC Interview: "I Was Trained As A Spy"

"Edward Snowden, in an exclusive interview with "Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams, is fighting back against critics who dismissed him as a low-level hacker — saying he was "trained as a spy" and offered technical expertise to high levels of government.

"I was trained as a spy in sort of the traditional sense of the word, in that I lived and worked undercover overseas — pretending to work in a job that I'm not — and even being assigned a name that was not mine," Snowden said in the interview."

Man Shoots And Kills Sleeping Trespassers - Uses 'Stand Your Ground' As Defense

"A Nevada man said this week that he was innocent under Nevada's "stand your ground" law after he fatally shot an unarmed man and wounded a woman who were sleeping inside one of his vacant properties.

According to Sparks police, 73-year-old Wayne Burgarello was told that someone was trespassing at one of his vacant properties on Feb. 13, and armed himself with two handguns, KTVN reported.

Burgarello found 34-year-old Cody Devine and 29-year-old Janai Wilson sleeping inside the home, and shot them. Devine was killed, while Wilson was seriously wounded.'

STUDY: Impact Of Climate Change On Florida, Goodbye Miami

"The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published its assessment of sea level rise in 2012 as part of the National Climate Assessment. Including estimates based on limited and maximum melt of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, it anticipated a raise of 4.1 to 6.6ft (1.25 to 2m) by 2100, reaching 2ft (0.6m) by around 2050 and 3ft (0.9m) by around 2075.

This degree of sea level rise would make nearly all the barrier islands of the world uninhabitable, inundate a major portion of the world's deltas, upon which hundreds of millions of people live, and leave low-lying coastal zones like southeast Florida increasingly difficult to maintain infrastructure services for and increasingly vulnerable to hurricanes and storms."

Politician: I'm Not Qualified To Debate Science So I Reject It!

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Thursday that though he doesn't feel qualified to "debate the science" of climate change, he does know that the Obama administration's efforts to mitigate the problem are bad for the country.

"Listen, I'm not qualified to debate the science over climate change," Boehner said when asked by a reporter whether he thinks climate change is a problem, and whether he would support taking action to fix it. "But I am astute enough to understand that every proposal that has come out of this administration to deal with climate change involves hurting our economy and killing American jobs. That can't be the prescription for dealing with changes in our climate."

Unprincipled Politicos Attack Edward Snowden After NBC Interview

The Young Turks discuss responses from Secretary of State John F. Kerry, Rep. Peter King, and Rep. John Boehner to NBC's interview of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Steve, John and Jimmy also discuss the reason why these politicians are attacking Snowden. Is Snowden a hero or a traitor? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry on Wednesday called National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden a fugitive and challenged him to "man up and come back to the United States."

"I think this guy is a fraud," Rep. Peter King said. "And I really wish that Brian Williams had gone after him and asked him to give one piece of evidence that shows the NSA has violated the law in any way."

"Edward Snowden is a traitor to our country. He's damaged our ability to keep Americans safe here and abroad. There is no other word to describe other than traitor," John Boehner said.

Edward Snowden Brian Williams NBC Interview Breakdown

The Young Turks breakdown Edward Snowden's interview with NBC's Brian Williams. Snowden discuss how whistleblowers throughout history like Daniel Ellsberg have always been falsely accused of placing the United States in grave danger. He also mentioned that the government exploited 9/11 for increasing surveillance programs, has no ties to Russia, and gives the definition to the word patriotism. Tell us what you thought of the interview in the comment section below.

The Heart-Warming Science Of Gay Dad Brains

"Opponents of marriage equality claim that same-sex couples should be banned from marrying because children deserve both a mother and a father, but a new study suggests otherwise. Researchers at Bar-Ilan University in Israel compared the brain scans of new moms, new straight dads, and new gay dads, and found that the gay dads developed brain patterns that resemble both mothers and fathers.

In the study, the mothers, who played a primary caregiver role for their children, demonstrated heightened activity in their brain's emotion-processing regions when watching their children. The straight fathers, playing a traditional secondary parenting role, exhibited increased cognitive activity in the brain, demonstrating awareness of what their children's cries and cues were trying to communicate. But the gay fathers demonstrated both the mothers' emotional and fathers' cognitive brain activity, suggesting that they were, at least according to their brains, operating like both mothers and fathers."* The Young Turks hosts Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola break it down.

Democrats Pushing To Restart Funding For CDC Gun Violence Report

"Two Congressional Democrats are unveiling legislation this morning that would restart the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's gun violence research efforts.

Since 1996, when a small CDC-funded study on the risks of owning a firearm ignited opposition from Republicans, the CDC's budget for research on firearms injuries has shrunk to zero.

The result, as we've detailed, is that many basic questions about gun violence — such as how many Americans are shot each year — remain unanswered."
