The last few years have seen a revolution in prenatal testing technology. Bedside ultrasound machines mean doctors can offer the service at every visit, while a simple blood test can screen for fetal abnormalities like Down syndrome or trisomy 18. These methods reveal more information earlier in the pregnancy than ever before. This can result in unnecessary stress, costly follow-ups and, in worst case scenarios, a misunderstanding of the health of the fetus. We hear advice on how to navigate the rapidly changing world of prenatal testing.
