Presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are lighting up crowds and soaring in the polls. They’re fiery. Plain spoken. Accessible. They’re populist rhetoric is tapping into Americans’ frustration over our gridlocked political system, stagnant wages, growing inequality. Sanders and Trump are part of a long line of populists stretching back to Andrew Jackson. We’ll look at that history, and at why the country is so ripe now for these messages.
